2 out of the 20 bands will be asked to play main stage at Wakarusa, and we need your help to make them be 1 of the 2 winning bands.

April Moore Skelton wrote the story. On the Athens Life Unleashed Blog (run by the Athens Convention & Visitors Bureau staff), she commented on the Mule Fest announcement with the following:

I really enjoyed talking to Ryan and Jill Kelly, the founders of Mule Train Records and Mule Fest about their plans for the label and growing the festival. They are some of the most ambitious people I’ve ever met.

Also, jake—a small magazine published by The Athens Banner-Herald—reprinted the story in their August 20-26 issue.

This year, the 2nd Annual Mule Fest will take place Friday, August 21 through Sunday, August 23 (this is the weekend before the first UGA football game).

Shows will be performed both outdoors and indoors in The Green Room (in the back of the Good Dirt building on Thomas Street).

A compilation of artist performances over the 2009 AthFest weekend, including The Corduroy Road, Nathan Sheppard, The Incredible Sandwich and the Mule Train All-Stars.

The Mule Train All-Stars include members of The Incredible Sandwich and The Corduroy Road joining label owner Ryan Kelly in an all out jam session that took place on June, 30 2009 in The Green Room.

At seven in the morning as the sun barely rose over the downtown skyline, flames tore through the center of the beloved building and shot into the air at a height of 40 to 50 feet. After an hour, firefighters had the fire under control, but the smoke and the smell lingered into the evening.

Hundreds of people gathered around the corner of Lumpkin and Clayton streets to see the gutting of this venue. And hundreds more, who knew the feeling of playing on that stage or being part of that crowd, understood what this loss meant.

The Incredible Sandwich achieved one of it’s dreams and celebrated the release of its self-titled debut EP on Mule Train Records at the Theatre in April of 2009.

“It’s kind of surreal that we’ll actually be playing there. The Georgia Theatre is such a great venue,” Matt told an Athens Banner Herald reporter before the release party.

The Corduroy Road also has fond memories at this venue.

From this fire, we at Mule Train hope something bright will emerge—a phoenix to demonstrate the power and community of music.

Mule Train Records supports the employees of The Georgia Theatre and a rebuilding of this structure.

To show our support, $1 of every Mule Train merchandise purchase, including cd’s, t-shirts, etc will go towards the rebuilding of the Theatre.
